Take Beautiful Landscape Photos at Key Lovers’ State Park

Lovers’ Key State Park is a beautiful place to take landscape photos. There are so many different options that you can always find something interesting to shoot. Grab your DSLR camera and capture some perfect beach photos that you will be proud to show to anyone.

Rule Of Thirds

Lovers’ Key State Parks four barrier islands offer an incredible variety of landscapes to photograph. Pick out one thing and let it be the focal point of your pictures. Look at your LCD screen as a tic-tac-toe board. Find a focal point and place it where two of the lines intersect, this is known as the rule of thirds. This simple technique sets your focal point off-center and makes your photograph more interesting to look at.

Golden Hour

It is always best to take pictures at the park during its slower hours. That way, you do not have to worry about others getting in your way. The best time to shoot most photos is right after sunrise and during “magic hour” right before sunset. During these hours, the light is scattered, so you will not experience the problems that you do with the sun being too bright in the middle of the day. To take unique photos away from the crowd rent a kayak or a canoe, just make sure you have a dry-bag for your camera!

Landscape photos can be vertical too – by Light Journeys

If the horizon is in your photo, then try to keep it straight across the frame. Although you will want to play with different options depending on the scene, the horizon should occupy no more than one-third of the photo. This is easy enough to fix using a crop tool in your photo editor afterwards if you didn’t get it quite right.

Long Exposure

The beautiful 2.5-mile long beach at Key Lovers’ State Park makes for dramatic photographs. When shooting beach scenes, consider adjusting the shutter speed. If you want the water to look like it is frozen in place, then set the shutter speed faster than 1/20 second. If you want the water to look like it is moving, then consider setting the speed at about 1/3 second. An interesting technique to try is setting the shutter speed at about four seconds, so the water has a hazy appearance.

Play with Filters

Using different filters on your camera during your visit to Key Lovers’ State Park can provide dramatic effects. If you are going to increase your shutter speed, then try using a neutral-density filter because it changes the wavelength of the light the camera sees making your photos even more dramatic. This is especially useful if you are going to rent a canoe or a kayak and take pictures from the water, as it allows the camera’s light sensors to work much better.

You may also want to use an ultraviolet filter to eliminate atmospheric haze. While your eyes may get used to seeing through this haze, even on the hottest summer days, the camera does not and your photos will look hazy without it.

Taking beautiful landscape photos at Key Lovers’ State Park is a wonderful way to spend the day. You will be amazed at the photos that you capture when you follow these simple techniques.
